On Thursday, November 19, 2009 the Arts Council of Greater
Grand Rapids announced the results of their annual grant
process, awarding $10,000 in Operating Support Grants for
2009/2010. Thirteen member organizations were awarded
grants that ranged from $100 to $1,800.
"In these challenging economic times, we are pleased
to be able to provide operating support to our member organizations
with funds raised from our loyal family of donors,"
said Caroline Older, Executive Director of the Arts Council.
The grants are designed to help nonprofit arts organizations
with budgets of less than $1 million. To be eligible, an
organization must have an art producing or performing component
in their mission and be a current member of the Arts Council.
Additionally this year only organizations that did not have
reserve or "rainy day" funds were eligible to
apply.
A review panel examines the applications in a process that
rewards organizations for artistic integrity, sound fiscal
management, education, outreach and collaboration. Diversity
and community service and are also considered.
