Every year the Arts Council awarded the following: • Operating support grants to organization members with operating budgets under $1,000,000. • Arts education grants to arts educators in the Kent Intermediate School District for programs, projects, and equipment not provided for in school budgets. • Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) minigrants to nonprofits in seven West Michigan counties. Every year the Arts Council offered these services: • Eight workshops that address arts organizations’ structural needs and artists’ concerns. • Grant-writing workshops focused on state minigrants and state arts grants. • One-on-one mentoring covering issues related to running a nonprofit. • Shared marketing efforts via the Cultural Marketing Group, the Culture Pass and calendar listings.   The Arts Council has been an advocate for its members on a city and state-wide level in the following ways: • By partnering with the MCACA and ArtServe Michigan to address funding needs and budget cuts. • By speaking on behalf of local arts organizations at legislative meetings as well as with legislators directly. • By keeping members informed of relevant issues through regular email updates.
